📌 50 Reasons I Write
“Any writer worth his salt writes to please himself…It’s a self-exploratory operation that is endless.” – Harper Lee
Inspired by Grant Faulkner’s “One Hundred Reasons Why I Write,” I decided to make my own list—but felt like 50 was a more Elayne-ish number.
I write to amuse myself.
I write to entertain others.
I write to remember.
I write to forget.
I write to push.
I write to parse.
I write to concentrate.
I write not to think at all.
I write to giggle.
I write to sob.
I write to atone.
I write to celebrate.
I write to confront.
I write to retreat.
I write to reflect on what was.
I write to envision would could be.
I write for self-fulfillment.
I write for a career.
I write to cheerlead myself.
I write to scare myself.
I write to capture.
I write to escape.
I write to decide.
I write to procrastinate.
I write to connect.
I write to distance.
I write for attention.
I write for anonymity.
I write to paint broad strokes.
I write to get into the weeds.
I write to remind myself I don't always know.
I write to change a mind—most often, mine.
I write to pour foundations.
I write to knit imaginary daisy chains.
I write to feel solid.
I write to feel airy.
I write to correct.
I write to conceal.
I write to keep busy.
I write to be indolent.
I write to comfort.
I write to needle.
I write to be honest.
I write to lie.
I write to play.
I write to toil.
I write to hear the music from a farther room.
I write to block out the outside noise.
I write to begin.
I write to continue.
What are your biggest reasons?
Yours, write away,
Elayne

Nice list Elayne! I also think this is just a nice exercise to sum up what writing does/is means! I think you have inspired me to write my own list!
