π Orange Beak Studio Sessions
For Β£15 (around $19), you can peek into the mind of some of your favorite picture book illustrators--and enjoy British-accented PB shop talk
Have you heard of Orange Beak Studio? Itβs made up of a group of picture-book-centric English creatives who offer their insights through a variety of tutorials, workshops, and online events. (You can see theβ¦huh, what do you call the parents of a brainchild? Brain parents?β¦anyhow, you can see the friendly and passionate Orange Beak crew on their About page.)

Are you, like me, the kind of person who reads about, say, Gertrude Steinβs salons and immediately wishes you could have gone to one? Do you have (literal) dreams where you find out you get to work on a project with this or that fantastic creator and want to bring some of that warm rush of feeling into the real world by hearing ALL about that creator, and their process? Then their hosted illustrator sessions, which is how I first learned about Orange Beak, will be your new favorite thing.
So far, Iβve learned from Julie Morstad and CΓ‘tia Chien (both talks were SO, so good), and Iβm all signed up for Sydney Smith in January. See what other events they have cooking.
The βeveningsβ typically kick off at 7 p.m. UK time, roughly at lunchtime (11 a.m.) here on the U.S. Left Coast. (Whichβ¦honestlyβ¦perfect! My kiddos are still at school!)
This Thursday, too, there is a freebie eventβa Drink & Draw. While 11 a.m. is a bit early for me to imbibe anything other than coffee (esp. when Iβll likely be needle-felting), Iβll definitely be there with one of my amazing mugs.
Maybe Iβll see you there, too!
Your sticky-beak, Orange-Beak-attending friend,
Elayne
